Regulation Survey

Both ASAPO & AOTP are currently working towards the national registration of all Anaesthetic Technicians. Key groups whom we have canvassed for support have told us that they would like some indication as to whether anaesthetic technicians, Australia-wide, were in favour of National Registration.

Why are we seeking National Registration?
  • To ensure best practice standards throughout Australia thus improving patient safety
  • Disciplinary committee that enforces code of conduct
  • To qualify unqualified Anaesthetic Technicians working in the healthcare system
  • To protect the Australian public from people who have been de-registered in their own country gaining employment in Australia
  • Although Anaesthetic Technicians have a voluntary registrations system, we want to remove the stigma of Anaesthetic Technicians being labeled unregulated. This is because: Health Care workers being labeled as unregulated limits our employments opportunities. At times certain healthcare groups have sought to denigrate our profession due to the fact we don't have compulsory registration. ASAPO wishes to remove that stigma.

When answering the following, your answers will influence the future direction of ASAPO & AOTP.
Do you feel that Anaesthetic Technicians should be regulated?
Are you in favour of Mandatory Government National Registration?
Are you prepared to pay more for Government national registration?
