The Australasian Society of Anaesthesia Paramedical Officers aims to promote the professional status and recognition of its members through:
  • Regular exchange of knowledge and further education for Anaesthesia Technicians/Technologists/APOs and Assistants to the Anaesthetists
  • Working towards statutory registration
  • Promoting a code of ethics for the wellbeing and safety of patients
  • Enabling us to represent our profession as a major stakeholder in peri-operative issues nationally
  • Development of a standardised scope of practice throughout Australia

Alison Holloway Award for 2009: after careful consideration, the judging panel selected Linda Long's submission Implementation of Intra-Operative Cell Salvage in Obstetrics. Congratulations Linda! This is a very prestigious award that recognises the work of technicians, paramedical officers and assistants in the field of Anaesthesia.
ASAPO registrants are compiling a list of hospitals in Australia and New Zealand that employ anaesthetic paramedical officers, to assist those seeking jobs in the profession. See the list here. Please send any additions to .
In order to improve voluntary registration we have appointed an additional person to coordinate applications. The new registrar is Annie Elder: annie.elder@gsahs.health.nsw.gov.au. We expect to see an improvement in the next few months as our new system comes into play. I would like to thank all registrants for their patience on this matter. You as ASAPO registrants are very important and we apologise for any inconvenience.
